Stagy and dull early talkie from Hitchcock about a battle between
a family and a speculator over land ownership. When it's discovered
that the speculator's wife was a former prostitute, the family
blackmails him into keeping his hands off their land. A few good
moments -- such as a well-paced auction scene that makes use of "zip"
pans -- save this one from the bottom of the barrel, but otherwise it's
just another studio-enforced film from Hitchcock's formative years.
